We are a collective of South American women writing from London. Through our words, we challenge the notion of ‘south’ and ‘north’ as fixed points on a map. The map we present here reminds us that these directions are not absolute—they are fluid, shifting with the contours of power, culture, and identity. In the urban landscape, the ‘south’ and ‘north’ do not adhere to geographical locations. Instead, they weave into each other, layering over one another like stories told from different vantage points. Our positionality reflects this interplay, where each of us carries the ‘south’ and the ‘north’ within, constantly reshaped by the city’s rhythms and its unspoken hierarchies. What we see is not the world divided by lines, but a tapestry of overlapping experiences, where boundaries blur and identities are redefined.
